Family Literacy Day 2011

Family Literacy Day takes place each year on January 27 to promote the importance of adults and children reading together, and to encourage Canadians to spend at least 15 minutes enjoying a learning activity as a family every day. The theme for 2011 is Play for Literacy!

So everyone, young and old, get together and play games that encourage literacy and numeracy!  Grab your board games, card games and word games and get ready to practice your literacy skills and have fun. On January 27, get together with family and play at home, attend a local event, or host an event in your community!

ABC Life Literacy Canada has some fantastic ideas on their website for Family Literacy Day, as well as every day activities that families can do together to improve literacy and numeracy in a fun, engaging manner!  ABC Life Literacy has paired up with HSBC Bank Canada to provide a fun, educational Family Literacy Day Activity Book.

In celebration of Family Literacy Day® on January 27, 2011, ABC Life Literacy Canada is giving away a Family Literacy Day Hasbro prize pack every week during the month of January. It’s easy to participate! Just follow us on Twitter and Facebook and answer our questions or tasks when we post them. This year’s Family Literacy day them is Play for Literacy so be sure to brush up on your gaming knowledge!

The first online challenge will be announced on January 4, 2011 and then each Monday we will announce a new challenge. Each online challenge will be different but you will have all week to participate. Only one entry per person per day is allowed. The winner will be chosen by random draw.

Good Luck to All and Thank You to ABC Life Literacy Canada!
